Sneak Peek | An Lam Resort

An Lam Blog

I’m spending some time on the Saigon River in southern Vietnam, shooting at the An Lam Resort. There are crickets and small ripples and rustling leaves and not much else. A few fishermen cutting a lazy course downstream. Buzzing lanterns swaying in the breeze. This is my last assignment from a very busy year and I miss being home and everything that comes along with it. So here’s to two more nights and then the holidays. Thanks to everyone following the blog and giving even a minuscule shit about what I do for a living. Et cetera. Et cetera.

Travel Photography | Ho Chi Minh City

A view over Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from Bitexco Tower.

For all of my travels in Southeast Asia, I always come back to Vietnam. It can be hard to pin down at times, what exactly I love about it. A certain kind of madness and awkward beauty maybe. Its unhinged chaos barely concealed beneath a veneer of wide-eyed youthfulness. The filth, the fun, the fleeting remembrance of recent history. Absolutely mind-bogglingly delicious food. Everything and more really. So it’s always exciting to have an assignment in one of the nation’s major cities. To traipse around with a camera in my hand and a loose agenda and nothing but crowded roads and plates piled high before me. So for now, here are some images taken on assignment with Singapore Airlines, for their inflight magazine. You can see the published story here as well: Ho Chi Minh City’s Hot Neighbourhoods.

Tearsheets | The Best Pizza in Vietnam

TT HCMC Pizza

One of my favorite clients, INK Publishing, is running another spread with my photos in Tiger Air’s inflight magazine this month. From a Japanese-run pizza joint in Saigon that may make the best pizza in the world. Seriously. Pizza 4Ps. They grow their own vegetables on a farm in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, and make several of their own cheeses as well, including a burrata that adorns their signature dish. Plus the chef studied in Italy and the owner is one of the friendliest people in Ho Chi Minh City. Go there.

Tearsheets | Saigon for United Airlines

I love working on travel stories in Ho Chi Minh City, but I don’t get to do it nearly enough. So I was very excited when United Airlines contacted me about a piece they were doing on the southern metropolis a few months back–a pretty free-form, first-person narrative from a great writer/novelist in the US centered around the eventual adoption of his friend after being left on the banks of the Saigon river at the end of the Vietnam-American War. I got to spend three days just roaming the city and taking things in while taking my photographs. Kind of the perfect job. Here are the tearsheets from the piece, which I think look great, as well as some outtakes from the journey. You can read the story HERE. Or, if you have some time, check out my other published work on my site HERE.
